Pastry Commis Chef – Award-Winning Restaurant, Rosebank, Johannesburg

Kendrick Recruitment, on behalf of our esteemed client, a renowned award-winning restaurant in Rosebank, Johannesburg, is seeking a passionate and creative Pastry Commis Chef to join their esteemed culinary team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Innovative Creations: Contribute to the creation and execution of exceptional pastry dishes, desserts, and baked goods that align with the restaurant’s high standards of quality and creativity.
  • Menu Development: Collaborate with the Head Chef and culinary team to develop and refine pastry menus, incorporating seasonal ingredients and innovative techniques to delight our guests.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with the kitchen brigade, offering guidance and training to junior pastry chefs, ensuring consistency and excellence in every dish served.
  • Quality Control: Maintain strict quality control measures to uphold the restaurant’s reputation for exquisite pastry offerings. Regularly assess the freshness, taste, and presentation of all pastry items.
  • Kitchen Operations: Oversee day-to-day pastry kitchen operations, including ordering supplies, managing inventory, and ensuring compliance with hygiene and safety standards.
  • Creative Presentation: Focus on the visual presentation of pastries, experimenting with designs and plating techniques to create visually appealing and Instagram-worthy desserts.

Requirements:

  • Experience: Minimum of 1 years of experience in a similar role, preferably within high-end restaurants or renowned pastry establishments.
  • Culinary Skills: Strong expertise in pastry techniques, baking, and dessert preparation. Knowledge of international pastry styles and trends is a plus.
  • Leadership: Proven leadership skills with the ability to inspire and mentor a team. Experience in training junior chefs and maintaining a positive kitchen environment.
  • Creativity: Exceptional creativity and a keen eye for detail. Ability to innovate and bring new ideas to the table, enhancing the restaurant’s pastry offerings.
  • Quality Focus: Commitment to maintaining the highest standards of quality, taste, and presentation in all pastry creations.
  • Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure kitchen environment. Flexibility to adapt to changing menus and guest preferences.
  • Qualifications: Formal culinary education or relevant pastry qualifications will be advantageous.
