💼 What’s the Role?
As a Field Guide, you’ll be at the heart of the safari experience, guiding guests on unforgettable game drives and bush walks, while sharing your knowledge of the area’s rich wildlife and ecology. You’ll also play a key role in assisting the Safari Management with the smooth running of operations and providing leadership and mentorship to fellow field guides.
🌟 Key Responsibilities:
Guiding Guests: Lead both vehicle and walking safaris, providing a holistic and engaging experience, including safety orientations, game drives, and interpretive bush walks.
Wildlife Expertise: Track animals, identify spoor, and deliver informative lectures on the local ecosystem to enhance the guest experience.
Safety & Standards: Ensure safety procedures are followed at all times, particularly during game drives and walks, including proficient and safe weapon handling.
Guest Engagement: Collect and communicate guest preferences, handle guest complaints, and contribute to memorable experiences throughout their stay.
Team Support: Assist in the operational side of the safari department, including mentoring and leading other guides, and contributing to the lodge’s social media platforms to promote the wildlife and environment.
Crisis Management: Assist with emergency situations, such as evacuations or medical emergencies, ensuring guest safety and comfort.
🚨 What Are We Looking For?
Qualifications: FGASA Level 2 Nature Site Guide, Trails Guide qualification, ARH, Rifle Proficiency, and First Aid Level 1.
Experience: Previous experience as a Field Guide at a luxury safari lodge is essential.
Skills & Knowledge: Strong knowledge of relevant guiding standards (FGASA), excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), and a guest-focused attitude.
Personal Traits: A proactive and creative approach, excellent time management skills, and the ability to handle pressure while maintaining a positive and enthusiastic attitude.
Team Player: Ability to work well with others, take feedback constructively, and show leadership when required.
