Kendrick Recruitment is excited to announce an exceptional opportunity for an Anti-Poaching Unit (APU) Manager at a renowned luxury lodge group in Namibia. If you are dedicated to wildlife conservation and have a strong background in anti-poaching operations, this role is perfect for you!

Location: Ongava Game Reserve, Namibia
Salary: R35,000 – R50,000 DOE
Accommodation: Live-in with meals provided

ROLE OVERVIEW

As the APU Manager, you will be responsible for the operational oversight and management of the Anti-Poaching Unit departments. Your role will include training, data collection and analysis, human resource management, logistics management, and strategy development. You will also be operationally deployed as required, in line with the reserve’s conservation and management policies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operational Oversight: Manage and oversee APU departments to ensure effective anti-poaching operations.
  • Training: Provide comprehensive training to APU staff on anti-poaching tactics and procedures.
  • Data Collection and Analysis: Collect, record, and analyze data related to poaching activities and wildlife movements.
  • Human Resource Management: Administer and manage the APU staff effectively.
  • Logistics Management: Oversee logistics to ensure the APU is well-equipped and prepared for operations.
  • Strategy Development: Develop and implement strategies to combat poaching activities within the reserve.
  • Operational Deployment: Be ready to be deployed operationally as required.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in Anti-Poaching/Counter Poaching/Surveillance Unit Management.
  • Experience in arrest/apprehension procedures, particularly with wildlife crime, is advantageous.
  • Relevant tertiary education required.
  • Firearm competency/certification and/or proven firearm handling experience.
  • K9 experience and relevant qualifications would be advantageous.
  • Additional experience in wildlife management or similar conservation fields is advantageous.
  • Experience in data recording, monitoring technology, and analyses.
  • Experience in GPS data collection/recording and mapping; GIS skills would be advantageous.
  • Physically fit and able to perform hard physical work in outdoor and dangerous conditions.
  • Computer literate and fluent in English.
  • Willing to work long, flexible hours, unsupervised, and under pressure.
  • Valid driver’s license and PDP.
  • Police clearance certificates and a full background check required prior to employment.
